The Story Behind KPT

First, the name: it’s pretty simple but worth explaining if you’re new here! Before I got married, all my friends called me “KP”. When I got married, people didn’t know what to do other than add on the “T”. So when I started my business and was trying to come up with an Instagram handle, “KPT CPA” just rolled off the tongue and it stuck!

Throughout my career, I’ve gained experience in income tax, sales tax, financial planning and analysis, and budgeting. This varied experience has given me a broader perspective on bookkeeping and how it fits into the overall financial picture of a business.

This business began in January 2021 as a way for me to combine my accounting and finance experience with something I've always enjoyed: helping people understand and manage the financial side of their lives and businesses.

I initially offered personal financial coaching, and it wasn't long before a client asked for help with her small business bookkeeping. Soon after, I began working with my first Teacherpreneur and became fascinated by the unique business model. I've continued providing bookkeeping services to Teacherpreneurs ever since.

Over time, I've also developed a deeper understanding of the Teacherpreneur space. I’ve seen how the businesses operate, where the revenue comes from, and the unique accounting needs that come with them. That experience ultimately led me to make Teacherpreneurs the sole focus of KPT Accounting and Consulting.

Today, I'm bringing all of that experience together and focusing on what I most enjoy: helping Teacherpreneurs with their bookkeeping.

And while bookkeeping is the service I provide, my perspective goes well beyond bookkeeping. As a CPA with experience across multiple areas of accounting and finance, I'm looking at your books with the bigger picture in mind. I understand how the decisions made in your bookkeeping can affect tax preparation, financial reporting, and your ability to understand what's actually happening in your business.

I'm not simply categorizing transactions and reconciling accounts. I'm thinking about whether your books make sense, whether they're giving you useful information, and whether they're organized in a way that will serve you and your tax professional when tax time comes around.

KPT CPA has evolved since it began in 2021, but the purpose behind it hasn't: using my experience to help small business owners feel confident that the financial side of their business is being handled well.

Today, I'm excited to do exactly that for Teacherpreneurs.
